How long does the Invisalign process take from start to finish?

The length of Invisalign process will depend on your specific case. Here, our dentists explain what you can expect from start to finish.

The entire Invisalign process generally takes the same amount of time as fixed metal braces, about a year from start to finish.

That being said, it can be shorter or longer depending on your specific case and how misaligned your teeth are.

The only way to find out for sure how long your Invisalign treatment will take is to visit your dentist.

Getting Started

The Invisalign process begins with a consultation at your dentist's office. Here, your dentist will complete a comprehensive exam including dental impressions and x-rays, and use this information to create your custom treatment plan.

If you choose to proceed with the process, your dentist will send your information to Invisalign technicians to create your custom Invisalign trays. This phase of process can take up to four weeks.

Treatment Phase

When your clear aligners are ready, you can pick them up at your dentist's office. Your dentist will make sure that they fit well and then you can take them home.

You will be expected to wear your aligners for 20 to 22 hours each day (only removing them for eating, drinking and cleaning) and change them every two weeks until treatment is complete.

Finishing Up

If you follow your dentist's instructions during treatment, you can expect to achieve the results set out in your treatment plan in the length of time specified by your dentist.
